Handbook: «CCS for waste incineration»

Chapter 2

Benchmark for a CO2 capture plant

There are many possibilities for CO2 capture associated with waste incineration plants in Norway. In this chapter, we look at available capture technologies and compare solutions that have already been developed by the partners in KAN. Based on this work, a reference facility "KAN Referansa" has been prepared and recommendations related to technology choices have been made. The chapter is an excerpt from the attached report "L2 - Benchmark of technology for carbon capture from waste incineration plants" by Norsk Energi.

Restriction

This benchmark applies to facilities that generate household and commercial waste, as well as recycled wood. The benchmark also covers plants that burn clean bioenergy such as wood chips, GROT, and other types of bioenergy. Benchmark is adapted to Norwegian conditions but will also have relevance outside Norway.

The illustration shows our reference waste incineration plant "KAN Referansa" which is intended to serve as a design basis for investigating the requirements for Norwegian waste incineration plants with regard to carbon capture.
